On 1st October, 2018 kattunayakan community people residing in Thruvai village at Thirunelveli district protested in Thirunelveli collector office through Tamilnadu federation demanding for their community certificates during the protest Nomadic people residing in Tharuvai village brought their school going children along with animals like squirrel, Jungle cat, mangoose, etc and their traditional hunting equipments.
Followed by this on 27th November 2019, similar protest was conducted in the Thirunelveli collector office with the same demand. The Thirunelveli RDO then promised to set up a committee and provide community certificate.
